So we opened our shop everyday from Black Friday through Christmas Eve and needed a break so we headed to Tallahassee for a weekend getaway. So I was out on Sunday looking for nautical themed items and came across this not paying much attention to it.
So far I learned that it is the Kalyan Minaret, built in 1127. Genghis Khan was so impressed with its height that he preserved it while laying waste to the rest of Bukhara.
Later it became known as the ‘Tower of Death’ as it became an easy way to execute criminals who were tossed off the top.
The three figures on the base are intriguing. The one on the right appears to be holding a snake, the one in the center has a wild animal possibly a tiger or lion, and the one on the left is anyone’s guess.
It stands 8.75” tall and is 4”5”. A collectible for those interested in Central Asian culture and history. Shows sign of light wear.
