Description:
Up for sale is a rare antique book titled Numa Pompilius, Second Roi de Rome by Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian. This is a Nouvelle Édition (new edition), carefully revised and adorned with engravings. It was published in 1825 by the Imprimerie d’Aug. Delalain in Paris. The book is written in French and consists of Tome Premier and Tome Second (Volume One and Two) bound together in a single volume.
One of the standout features of this edition is an engraved illustration within the book. The engraving depicts a dramatic scene with a Roman warrior and includes the caption:
“Le possesseur de ce bouclier sera toujours invincible”
(“The possessor of this shield will always be invincible.”)
This engraving adds to the book’s historical and artistic appeal, as engravings in early 19th-century books were meticulously crafted by skilled artists.
The book features a black leather spine with gold gilt detailing and lettering. The boards have a speckled black-and-gold
