An exquisite square makeup compact featuring authentic Damascene (Zogan) metalwork, a traditional Japanese technique involving the inlay of precious metals into a darkened steel surface. The front panel depicts a serene landscape of bamboo and a bird in flight, masterfully rendered in 24-karat gold and silver on a gold plated brass body. The side walls are finished with elegant scroll-work chasing.
Features the "K24" purity mark and the stylized Mount Fuji hallmark on the front panel. Mount Fuji was a common hallmark used by Japanese exporters during the post-WWII period to denote authentic Japanese craftsmanship.

Very good vintage condition. The inlay remains vibrant with no missing gold or silver wires. The interior has minimal oxidation, and the exterior brass has a warm, aged patina. The mirror is has light foxing typical for its age. Light signs of wear on the front as pictured.
